Hungarian Maize Storage Facility Prepared
For The Flood Fight With AquaFence Leading
The Charge

First installation of AquaFence in Hungary completed.

Following an order taken in November 2007, AquaFence has completed the delivery and installation of bespoke flood protection for Europe’s largest intervention maize storage facility, at Adony on the banks of the Duna river.

The installation, which consists of 54 metres of 1.3 metres long x 1.8 metres high AquaFence elements, reflects the flexible nature of the AquaFence system. Although based on the proven AquaFence design, the elements in Hungary are sized to the exact customer requirements, to ensure the reliable protection from flood water of several gates on the perimeter walls.

“Standard sized AquaFence elements are generally suited for most deliveries but we understand that every order is different,” comments Michael Czernetzk, AquaFence GmbH. “Because of this, we offer all of our customers the option of elements built to their exact specifications and ensure that the delivery process is just as smooth as it is for standard AquaFence installations.”

AquaFence is a semi-mobile, or demountable, flood protection system that provides advantages in both cost and efficiency. It is one of the fastest to deploy flood protection systems available on the market, taking a ten man team approximately one hour to install a 100m flood protection barrier. Its strength and unique design enables the best possible protection and after the waters have subsided it can be taken down and stored easily, ready for the next flood.

Although AquaFence is the most effective flood protection solution available, it is also one of the most economic, with costs similar to those of one-time use sandbag flood protection. However, AquaFence can be used again and again so users can reduce their flood fighting costs dramatically, immediately and over years of use.

“The cost benefits speak for themselves. If your regular flood protection method was sandbag walls then AquaFence will have paid for itself on its second use,” comments Helge Krogenes, Managing Director, AquaFence A/S. “Even with their many failings, sandbags are by far the most common form of flood protection so it will of course take time for authorities and organisations to recognise the many benefits AquaFence offers, however, installations like those in Hungary and the USA are starting to raise our profile as the cost effective alternative to sandbags.”
