The Story: Building Greater Flood Resilience for Healthcare Operations
Hospitals depend on continuous, reliable access for patients, medical personnel, emergency response teams and essential support services. During an extreme-rainfall event, water entering through public entrances or descending vehicle ramps can quickly affect accessibility and expose lower levels of a facility to significant damage.
The record-breaking rainfall experienced across Dubai in April 2024 reinforced the importance of protecting healthcare facilities against sudden surface-water flooding. Against this wider backdrop, NMC required a robust and practical solution for five vulnerable access points: three principal entrances and two ramps leading to underground parking areas.
AquaFence was selected to provide an engineered flood protection system supported by responsive local service and continued project follow-up.
The Challenge: Securing Entrances and Underground Garage Ramps
The site presented several distinct flood-protection challenges:
Three main entrances required dependable protection against water intrusion.
Two underground garage ramps created natural downward pathways through which surface water could enter lower levels.
The protection system needed to accommodate different opening widths and site conditions.
Normal patient, staff and vehicle access had to remain unobstructed when the barriers were not deployed.
The hospital required a solution that could be installed efficiently as part of its severe-weather preparations.
Technical quality had to be supported by dependable local service, responsiveness and ongoing operational assistance.
The Solution: V1200 FloodWall Protection Across Five Access Points

AquaFence developed a coordinated protection strategy using its V1200 FloodWall system:
V1200 barriers provided a protection height of 1.2 metres across the identified entrances and garage approaches.
Barrier configurations were adapted to the geometry and operating requirements of each protected location.
The three main entrances received targeted opening protection designed to reduce the risk of water entering public and operational areas.
The two underground garage ramps were protected at critical points before floodwater could descend toward lower levels.
The modular FloodWall system can be deployed when severe weather threatens and removed for compact storage afterward.
Local technical support and continuous follow-up helped ensure that the system remained aligned with the hospital’s operational requirements.
The V1200 is part of AquaFence’s FM Approvals platinum-certified FloodWall range, giving the facility a professionally tested flood-defense system suitable for demanding commercial and critical-infrastructure applications.
The Results: A Coordinated Defense for Critical Hospital Access
The completed solution provides NMC with:
Integrated protection for three main entrances and two underground garage ramps.
A consistent 1.2-metre flood-protection height across five vulnerable access points.
Reduced exposure to floodwater entering ground-level and below-grade areas.
A reusable system that can be stored without interfering with everyday hospital operations.
Greater deployment readiness ahead of forecast extreme weather.
Stronger protection for patient access, vehicle circulation and operational continuity.
Continued local support for system functionality and deployment preparedness.
By protecting both pedestrian entrances and underground vehicle routes, AquaFence has helped NMC establish a more comprehensive flood-resilience strategy—supporting the hospital’s ability to remain prepared, accessible and operational when severe rainfall threatens.
