AquaFence to protect The Florida Aquarium from future flooding

AquaFence is helping The Florida Aquarium strengthen its hurricane preparedness with a new deployable flood protection system designed to protect the waterfront facility, its critical conservation work and the 20,000 animals in its care.

The AquaFence system is being donated as part of a collaborative effort with support from Tampa General Hospital and Strategic Property Partners.

The project builds on AquaFence’s proven performance at Tampa General Hospital, where the flood protection system helped the hospital remain operational during Hurricane Helene in 2024.

Located on Tampa’s waterfront, The Florida Aquarium has experienced the challenges posed by major storms firsthand. During the 2024 hurricane season, some animals had to be moved to higher floors for protection.

FOX 13 Tampa Bay recently featured the project and spoke with representatives from The Florida Aquarium, Tampa General Hospital and AquaFence about the importance of protecting the facility before the next major storm.
