The Story: Safeguarding a Major Environmental Initiative

The RiverRenew Tunnel Project is a critical effort to eliminate sewage overflows and restore the health of Alexandria’s waterways. Designed to capture and treat stormwater and wastewater, the project plays a vital role in protecting the Hooffs Run, Hunting Creek, and the Potomac River ecosystems. During a major rehabilitation and renovation phase, flood protection became a priority to ensure uninterrupted progress and prevent water intrusion from impacting construction and new infrastructure.

Recognizing the need for effective water diversion, RiverRenew partnered with AquaFence to deploy a tailored flood defense solution.

The Challenge: Protecting a Critical Infrastructure Project from Flooding

  • Prevent water intrusion at key construction zones.

  • Ensure continuous work on the tunnel and sewer system.

  • Provide a temporary yet highly effective flood barrier for the renovation phase.

The Solution: Reliable Flood Protection for a Complex Worksite

AquaFence provided:

  • 120 linear feet of V1200 (4’) FloodWall, creating an adaptable water diversion system.

  • A rapid deployment solution to minimize impact on project timelines.

  • Durable and reusable flood barriers, ideal for temporary yet repeated use.

The Results: Seamless Construction, Environmental Protection

  • Water diversion ensured uninterrupted progress on the RiverRenew project.

  • Protected critical infrastructure from potential flood damage.

  • Advanced Alexandria’s mission to reduce pollution and safeguard local waterways.

By incorporating AquaFence’s flood protection, RiverRenew can continue its mission to restore Alexandria’s rivers and streams, ensuring a cleaner, healthier future for the Potomac River and beyond.
